"That's OK" says the guitarist. "You can just tune it back up again" to which the bass player replies "No I can't, he won't tell me which one!"

La NFL ha da poco messo sul sito la raccolta delle migliori foto della stagione (ho visto solo quelle della prima pagina, e la mia preferita ovviamente è quella con Antwaan Randle El e Santana Moss -che fra l'altro mostra sempre il 21 con le dita, in memoria di Sean Taylor), e la NBA dopo la scorsa notte ha questa immagine dove un ragazzo alto 1,75 sovrasta il suo sfidante nella finale della gara delle schiacciate.

Ricevo un messaggio privato su un forum.

"Hi.  I just wanted to ask since you're from Italy.  Many times when perusing Ebay, I notice that folks don't (won't) sell to Italy.  Do you guys have a really tough customs dept?  Shady postal workers?  Any idea?"

La mia risposta:

Both of the above. Just to give you a few examples:

- Chances of having to pay custom duties are totally random. If your package has been "picked", you have to pay 5,50 Euros (just because it has been picked) + 20% VAT on the value.

- I once purchased used CDs from Japan; the seller (as most sellers do) underestimated their value in 1000 Yens (that was 6,50 Euros circa, at the time). Italian customs charged me as it the value was 100 Euros, and my efforts to contact them via phone or fax were useless.

- If your package didn't reach you, chances are that it's held at the Custom office. If your phone number isn't written on the form, they just won't contact you and let you wait for months (you have to guess they are holding it and try to get in touch, if you can).

- A few months ago I bought an anime resin kit for a friend of mine; the package was sent back to the seller and I received a letter from the Customs claiming the box contained a "smelly doll", and I'm quoting!

- I few years ago I was informed by the seller (from the Far East) that the box with some items I bought was sent back (without being informed by Italian Post). I then asked the seller to send by Registered mail and wrote my address again. Seller replied: your address is OK and that rejected box was sent by registered mail too.

- Some 4 or 5 years ago Italian Post changed the handling of foreign mail. Back then, a letter or small package sent from England took 3 or 4 working days to reach the buyer. Now you're lucky if it takes less than 10 working days.

That's just what came to my mind over the last ten minutes, but I'm surely missing something. The point basically is: Italian buyer doesn't get what he paid for. He gets pissed off at the seller. Sellers get pissed off too and they end "Sorry, we no longer ship to Italy".

Mi sembrava troppo bello che i problemi del PC fossero risolti.

Martedì circa (cioè 4 giorni dopo averlo rimontato), il secondo HD da deciso di mettersi a fare casino. Velocità di copia file ridotta a 1/10 (verificato), Winamp che rallenta le canzoni (anche se sono sul primo HD) e CPU che va al 100% prevalentemente impegnata da Hardware interrupt.

Ho poi scoperto che il problema era quello descritto qui (confermato nella sezione Hardware di Pannello di controllo/Sistema). Fallito il tentativo di risolvere da BIOS, resto in attesa di consigli per procedere con il metodo indicato senza causare disastri.

Edit del 09/02: Ha funzionato!

Lunedì scorso (2 febbraio) ho ricevuto questi due messaggi (contemporaneamente):

"Traffico insufficiente per rinnovare Opzione Infinity Messaggi. Ricarica entro 7 gg e attendi SMS di conferma attivazione. Per disattivare chiama il 42070"

"Ti ricordiamo che Opzione Infinity Messaggi sarà disattivata il giorno 02/02/09".

Alla faccia della disattivazione via 42070 (mai riuscita), il messaggio esatto si è rivelato il secondo. Finally!

Edit del 09/02: "Non è stato possibile rinnovare Opzione Infinity Messaggi perchè il traffico disponibile è insufficiente". Magari la prossima volta non attivatemela neanche!

Avevo scelto questa canozne un paio di mesi fa, ma avevo già in programma di chiuedere il vecchio anno ed aprire quello nuovo con Lana Lane ad Ayreon.

Dato che fuori sta ancora nevicando, la canzone ci sta paricolarmente bene.

Ho scoperto i Within temptation da "poco", e ovviamente mi ha colpito la voce di Sharon (nel video di Ice queen mi ho colpito anche il vestito da cui credo abbia strabordato).Enjoy!
